It’s pretty late and I’ve had a super long day at work but I want to share a story you don’t know about me. If I don’t make sense, don’t blame me, but my poor English and the state of exhaustion I’m currently in. So, as you probably know, I joined SL last February. I was familiar with the 3D worlds/games before, but a total noob when it came to SL. My bestie, Jules has been a resident longer than I me and she basically introduced me to everything. Fashion stores, sims, taught me how to dress my avatar up. I remember I was sim hopping with my system head, constantly thinking “Wow how do people look like this or how do they create that?”. Oh and I was also shopping like a maniac. First store I had gone to, was Blueberry’s and if I remember correctly, I spent a whole night there trying on every item.
Greece was under massive capital controls back then (still is but we can use our credits cards now) so my budget was very limited. I soon, was introduced to fashion blogs, I believe Strawberry‘s first and Daeberethwen‘s right after that. Their tutorials encouraged me to start taking pictures and experimenting with photography in SL. Jules persuaded me to start blogging as well. Yes, you have Jules to blame for that. But hey, she said I would be good at it and you don’t want to argue with her. She’ll make you do anything she wants! Ha ha.
So, I began blogging stuff I bought while applying to every blogger application I would find. One of the stores I got accepted in, was a poses one, which mostly did poses for couples. I had a total of zero male friends though. I did consider an alternative account (or malt, as I believe it’s called) but I was still learning my current avatar. I wasn’t willing to have another avatar to worry about. So what did I do? I contacted almost every male blogger and photographer I was following on Flickr, asking them if they would like to make a picture with me. Yes, I did that. Thinking about it now, I’m quite embarrassed, but no regrets there, one has to be resourceful. Everyone rejected me (can’t blame them), others didn’t even reply. But one of them did, with an answer I will never forget: “Sure, when?”. His name is Arnno Planer and he didn’t hesitate to help me immediately. He didn’t care about my photography skills or popularity either.
I have been friends with Arnno ever since that day. I will always remember how helpful he was and how he – doesn’t know it yet, but he will now – influenced me and motivated me to keep doing what I’m doing. I figured he probably saw something in me and thought I deserve a chance. Merci beaucoup mon ami!
Which brings me to my post tonight. I asked him to join me once again, since it has been a while and I had missed him. It is very interesting how everyone on SL is only at a one-click -distance but yet so far away.
