The World Is Yours…(I Stand For Peace)

“You can’t expect to see change if you never do anything differently”

The world is yours…the world is you and me and everyone on it. The world is beautiful, huge and so small at the same time. The world is also dying. Hatred, violence, racism, terrorism and catastrophes are examples only to begin with and actually, we’re all responsible. Mostly because we do nothing about it.

I have stopped watching the news ever since Greece went bankrupt. All that drama suffocated me, people were killing themselves out of desperation, others out of embarrassment as they had lost their jobs and couldn’t provide to their families and others just starved to death. It was a complete chaos. You would see homeless people everywhere in the streets and people turning against each other, even at their closest friends, only because they were still lucky enough to have a job.

So since I realized that all this awful situation brought me down, I decided I will shut it all down. I will try to think positive (even though my family was massively affected as well) and I will just help people in any way that I can. Of course, shutting yourself down is impossible. You might not watch the news but the news will get to you. Friends of mine were moving out of the country hoping for a better future, others started doing drug dealing or soliciting only to make 20 euros and drama was back into my life all over again. Then of course, looking at this globally, many countries have suffered before Greece and unfortunately, there are many to follow.

What the world is really suffering from is lack of solidarity. We’ve forgotten what is like to be human. We’ve forgotten that we’re supposed to help each other and be kind to one another. Then again, what is right for me, might be wrong for you. Disbelief and religion cause fanaticism, which leads to hatred and obsession, which lead to terrorism and extremism, which lead to thousands and thousands of people having lost their lives for nothing.

I’m still young and I want to have children one day. I don’t want to raise them in this world. I know I’m responsible as well for being ignorant when my friend was having problems, for voting for the wrong people to represent me in the parliament and for so many other reasons. I once read online “you can’t expect to see change if you never do anything differently”. It is so true. And it’s what I’ve been doing ever since. Things differently. We can change the world, we can be the change we want to see in others. We can set the example and we can start now.

I’m so privileged to be part of this big community of SL, to have met and socialized even worked with all these amazing artists that inspire me everyday and get to express myself through this platform. It’s something I’ve been doing for only 3 months and is very therapeutic. I’m also very happy to see how motivated and powerful this community is, which only makes me want to be part of it even more and make something good out of it. It is what keeps me going and if I manage to influence and inspire even one person only, I will be forever happy.

This is my addition to the I Stand For Peace challenge created by Good Cross. It’s just one picture and will only take you a few minutes. I’m looking forward to seeing each and every one of them in the group.

Thank you for taking the time to read this (if you’ve made it this far) and for bearing with my English. Greeks are famous for their noses and loud voices, not their fluency in foreign languages. Hehe.

Be good everyone.
